Systematic Theology
Theology for Everyone: A Systematic Theology Teaching Series
by Dr. Joshua Nichols, PhD, Pastor
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
As the waters cover the sea.” — Habakkuk 2:14 (NASB)
Theology for Everyone is a comprehensive, accessible, and pastorally grounded exploration of the great doctrines of the Christian faith. Taught by Dr. Joshua Nichols, a pastor and theologian with a PhD in Systematic Theology, this series is crafted for believers of all backgrounds, new Christians, seasoned saints, and thoughtful skeptics, who desire to understand who God is, what He has revealed, and how truth transforms every dimension of life.
Unlike theology confined to the seminary classroom, Theology for Everyone flows from the conviction that every Christian is called to love the Lord with heart and mind (cf. Matthew 22:37). With warmth, clarity, and scholarly depth, Dr. Nichols guides listeners through the essential contours of historic Christian doctrine: the nature of God and His Triune being, the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, the drama of redemption in Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, the covenantal sweep of Scripture, the church and her ordinances, and the hope of the age to come.
Grounded in Biblical Theology, shaped by the Reformed tradition, and faithful to the conviction that Scripture is both inerrant and infallible, this series upholds the beauty of the gospel with intellectual rigor and pastoral care. Dr. Nichols weaves together exegesis, historical theology, and practical application, ensuring that doctrine does not hover in abstraction but lands in the heart, the home, and the local church.
Listeners will find this series:
-
Biblically Rooted: Every doctrine emerges from careful engagement with the NASB text, interpreted in light of the Christ-centered unity of Scripture.
-
Theologically Robust: Drawing from the rich well of Reformed orthodoxy while avoiding needless speculation or higher critical distortions.
-
Pastorally Accessible: Complex concepts are made understandable without sacrificing depth, because theology is not merely for scholars but for the whole people of God.
-
Worship-Inviting: Each session aims not only to inform the mind but to kindle awe, gratitude, and devotion to the Triune God who saves.
Ultimately, Theology for Everyone is an invitation, a call to behold the glory of God in the face of Christ, to think His thoughts after Him, and to be shaped by truth that sanctifies (John 17:17 NASB). Whether you are exploring Christian doctrine for the first time or deepening decades of study, this series offers a trustworthy guide into the riches of God’s revelation.
Come, open the Scriptures. Bring your questions. Prepare to be stretched, encouraged, and grounded in the unshakable truth of the gospel. Theology is not merely for the academy, it is for everyone.
Bibliology - The Doctrine of the Bible
Study in the Canons of Dort
Our study through the Canons of Dort has been a journey into the heart of God’s sovereign grace and enduring faithfulness. Drafted at the Synod of Dort (1618–1619) in response to the rise of Arminian theology, the Canons are not a comprehensive systematic theology, but a pastoral and doctrinal response to key questions concerning the nature of salvation.
Together, we explored the Five Points of Calvinism, not as abstract doctrines, but as Scripturally rooted truths meant to comfort and assure believers in the unshakable work of God:
-
Total Depravity – Mankind is wholly fallen in Adam, spiritually dead, and utterly unable to save himself apart from sovereign grace.
-
Unconditional Election – Before the foundation of the world, God graciously chose a people in Christ, not based on foreseen faith or merit, but solely according to His mercy.
-
Limited Atonement (Particular Redemption) – Christ’s death was sufficient for all, but effectual only for the elect. His atonement truly secured the salvation of His sheep.
-
Irresistible Grace – When the Spirit calls the elect to Christ through the gospel, He effectually draws them, overcoming all resistance and giving new life.
-
Perseverance of the Saints – Those whom God has called and justified will persevere in faith, upheld by His grace and preserved unto glory.
Throughout our study, we saw that these doctrines do not diminish human responsibility but magnify the glory of God in salvation. They humble the sinner, exalt Christ, and give rest to the weary soul. Far from being cold or academic, the Canons of Dort were written with deep pastoral care, to comfort believers struggling with assurance and to anchor the church in the gospel of God’s sovereign grace.
May our hearts continue to echo the spirit of the Canons:
“To God alone, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen.”
